Photography is more than a click on a button

I just went for a walk in the countryside on an island in Spain (I am currently on vacation), I was bored and in a bad mood, so I decided to clear my head, take my camera and put my headphones on. During the walk I was looking around for things to take pictures of, moving my feet to the beat, thinking of something that I could write about in my blog. At first I thought, photography is not really related to what I usually write, things that happen to us, help with things in life etc. But then I thought, so what, photography is a HUGE part of our life, always has been, always will be and it’s one of my biggest passions, so here it goes.
Since centuries ago the human kind has taken pictures, it has evolved drastically over the years, however, the concept has never changed. There are the pictures you take to guard a memory, the pictures that become a treasure, the pictures that when you look at them years later, they will put a smile on your face, when they remind you of good times, but at the same time they will tear you apart, letting you know that that moment is just a memory and you can’t relive it, even if it’s your biggest wish.
Then there are the photographs artists take to represent something. To make you feel something, to make you look for the hidden message that you will only discover if you look at it in a different way, than you first did. The photographs that describe the worlds biggest secrets, the photographs that touch your heart because you understand them so well.
Then of course there is artistic photography, it’s beautiful, something new, a new way of putting things together on a screen, the photos that sometimes are cool and that’s it. The photos that people hang on the wall when there is an empty space, the photos where there is no hidden message, but they make people analyze them making each person perceive it in a different way, making one photo have numerous messages and descriptions. It’s almost magical how something on a screen or a paper with a glossy finish and basic figures, can say so much by just a glance.
Photography teaches us that there are other ways of communicating, other ways of expressing ourselves that doesn’t require letters and words. It teaches us how every human is different and that everyone perceives an image by the experiences they have gone through, it teaches us that everyone looks at the world from a different perspective. There is a reason we say “a picture is worth a thousand words” (By Napoléon Bonaparte).
This is the reason photography is my passion, I love to just look around my house for cool objects and put them together to create a new and original photo. I love to just take a walk, to find new things I can point my lens at from at a thousand different angles, I love how it makes me think, how it challenges my creative self, how it clears my mind from all my problems and puts a smile on my face. I love the click of the button that lets me know a new image has been taken, I love that it’s such a simple thing, however, at the same time, it can be so complicated.
I hope you enjoyed this post, I know it’s a little different than my other ones, it’s just me writing about the thoughts that go through my mind. I am currently on vacation and I will do my best to upload as much as I can, but I am pretty busy with family and friends, that’s summer I guess, hehehe.
As always,
Remember, Be You.
